Tensions flared in Accra on Wednesday as a host of prominent figures from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) descended on the residence of Assin South Member of Parliament (MP) Rev. Ntim Fordjour at Spintex.
Their dramatic arrival was reportedly to thwart an alleged attempt by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) to arrest the MP.
The incident unfolded after Rev. Ntim Fordjour made public allegations concerning two aircraft that recently landed in Ghana, suggesting their involvement in money laundering and illicit drug trafficking.
He subsequently called on the government to investigate the matter and address the public.
Leading the NPP contingent were key figures such as the Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua, National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, and Director of Communications Richard Ahiagbah, alongside other Members of Parliament and party activists.
According to the NPP, their presence at Rev. Ntim Fordjour’s residence was triggered by information that NIB officials had “invaded” the MP’s home to execute an arrest warrant related to his claims about the two aircraft.

Speaking to JoyNews at the scene, the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, delivered a strong message of solidarity, stating, “Reverend cannot be made an example, Reverend is not a loner, he has not walked alone and he will not walk alone”.
He emphasized that Rev. Fordjour had presented the AirMed aircraft issue to the public on behalf of the Defence Committee of Parliament, of which he is a member, asserting that “nobody should make an attempt to single him out and try to come here to intimidate him”.
The sheer number of NPP members present at the residence reportedly prevented the NIB from executing the alleged arrest warrant.
Following Rev. Ntim Fordjour’s initial press briefing in Parliament, the government spokesperson, Felix Kwakye-Ofosu, refuted his allegations, describing them as false and explaining that the aircraft landed due to minor technical faults and other legitimate reasons.
This exchange has ignited political tension between the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition NPP.
While some security analysts and political figures have reportedly called for Rev. Fordjour’s arrest for further interrogation, the NPP’s strong show of support underscores the escalating political stakes surrounding the “suspicious flights” saga.
