The Ghana Education Service (GES) has rejected a request from the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) to postpone the reopening of Senior High Schools (SHS).
CHASS had expressed concerns that financial constraints facing schools could disrupt the reopening process, urging the Ministry of Education to address the issues before the scheduled date of January 3, 2025.
However, the GES has confirmed that the 2024/25 academic calendar will proceed as originally planned. This means SHS students are expected to return to school on January 3rd, and Primary and Junior High School (JHS) students will resume classes on January 8th.

The GES, in a statement released on January 2nd, acknowledged the concerns raised by CHASS. They are actively working with the Ministry of Education to resolve the issues and ensure a smooth start to the academic year.
The GES urged all stakeholders—students, staff, parents, and the public—to prepare for the new academic year and adhere to the established schedule.
